Help us shine a light on homelessness
On any given night in Australia, 1 in 200 people are homeless. Despite popular belief, children are one of the largest groups of Australians experiencing homelessness. In fact, children under the age of 18 make up 27% of people experiencing homelessness*. Through donations, hundreds of thousands of people receive support and millions of nights of accommodation are provided by specialist homelessness services each year. But these services are not-for-profit and rely on the generosity of the public to keep operating, and to provide people with a safe place to sleep.
Each year, Vinnies hosts a CEO sleep out, a event that brings together CEOs, business owners as well as community and government leaders – who all sleep outdoors in winter to support the many Australians who are experiencing homelessness every single day. Last year, the Vinnies CEO Sleepout raised 6.9 million dollars for people experiencing homelessness.
Our CEO, Jon Evans, is sleeping out
Jon has been supporting Vinnies CEO sleepout for 7 consecutive years, raising almost $34,000 in total. In 2016, he raised a whopping $10,000 – and this year, he’s aiming to beat that. On 20 June, Jon will be sleeping out with hundreds of CEOs in Sydney, hoping to bring attention to this worthy cause. Here’s a short clip of Jon from 2017:
